Our proposal for the Statens Naturhistoriske Museum intends to open-up the Museum. This should happen at the level of the Museum buildings and at the level of knowledge as represented by the institutions of the Natural Sciences. This proposal has no single idea or overarching concept to determine a fixed set of relationships between the constituent elements of the Museum. Instead we used a collection of observations and topics of interest related to the contemporary state of the museum / the public / education /and scientific information. We call these topics the States of Matter.
The States of Matter operate as seemingly disconnected ideas in a potential network of public knowledge. Each state has the potential to form a cluster of associations that reflect an attitude about human experience within the natural environment. Considering the bond between different States of Matter there is an opportunity for reconfiguring conventional relationships between: History and environment / Cause and effect / Fact and myth / Public knowledge and specialized research.
