the property was formerly a facility for clothing manufacture. the long, raw space for miguel abreu gallery is planned as a sequence of spaces offering different options for mounting exhibitions of various scales. the ceiling is treated as an continuous field of artificial light. an alternating pattern of bare fluorescent lamps and led track lights are incorporated into the exposed timber joists which are painted white to disperse the reflected light. the program includes two main exhibition areas and an intimate viewing room, extensive art storage, a bookstore and a central office for sequence press, the publishing division of the gallery.
