black market appeared at artbrussels 2016, as a space to display the use of black market strategies in artistic creation and to investigate the topic of circulation beneath the realm of the visible. black market was conceived by daniel blanga-gubbay, teresa gentile and simon asencio, and produced by aleppo, a brussels-based laboratory for experiments in performance and politics.
the furniture system was developed using the module of a standard sheet of plywood. the system consists of two basic components, a box unit, and a panel which connect to form different configurations. adapting to the improvised nature of an alternative economy the system can be quickly assembled (and disassembled) to accommodate the various needs of the informal market place: a table, a platform, seating, storage, display. beyond the functional component the furniture system serves as both a visual as well as conceptual identity for black market.
